Authorities mentioned they were contacted by a man who found a vehicle in Hanau covered with reddish substance

Around fifty vehicles have been covered with what seems to be human blood in the Germany's municipality of Hanau close to Frankfurt, police confirm police.

Vehicles, walls and postboxes were marked, occasionally with swastikas, they reported in a release.

Law enforcement report they were contacted late on Wednesday, when a individual discovered that a automobile in the Lamboy neighborhood of Hanau had been covered with a reddish-hued fluid.

The liquid had been drawn in the pattern of a swastika, they added.

Police then found many other vandalized vehicles and building exteriors in the nearby vicinity.

These symbols are prohibited in Germany under regulations banning the public display of Nazi-era symbols.

Law enforcement state initial examinations suggest the substance was likely human blood.

"Currently there is no clue as to its source; officials are not yet cognizant of any physical harm in connection with the incident," they added.

Municipal representatives said they were working "to solve the case" and have appealed to the community for details.

A senior political figure stated the incident made him without words and required to be resolved quickly.

"This incident affects the center of Hanau and reopens the wounds of the far-right violent incident five years ago," he posted on social media, recalling the murder of nine individuals by a assailant targeting residents of migrant background in five years prior.
