The country's energy systems have come under escalating strikes in recent weeks

Overnight, Russian missile and drone strikes have resulted in electricity outages in extensive areas of the capital city, Kyiv.

A number of civilians were hurt while inhabitants in the city's east were plunged into darkness and encountered disruption to water systems, according to municipal leaders.

At the same time, a minor was fatally injured in a distinct assault in the Zaporizhzhia region in the southeastern part, as reported by regional authorities.

Moscow has escalated attacks on power infrastructure over the last fortnight, while the country's government has called for "real steps" from international partners to increase pressure on Russia.

"What is required is not superficial actions but strong steps - from the US, European nations and the G7 - in delivering air defence systems and implementing restrictions," he wrote in a online statement.

Officials stated that numerous aerial vehicles and several dozen projectiles targeted energy facilities, labeling such strikes as "cynical and calculated" and against "everything that sustains normal life" as winter approaches.

Energy officials said Russia was "inflicting a massive strike" and technical staff were laboring to restore power.

A barrage of missiles struck energy infrastructure and civilian homes in Kyiv.

Multiple people wounded in the strikes on the city have been hospitalized, per statements from municipal representatives.
